RAK economy is based on leveraging on natural topography, consisting of 65 km of coastal silver sandy beaches, majestic mountains on the eastern side for hill resorts, un-spoilt desert plain in the central region for commercial & industrial projects and green belt in the southern side for agriculture developments. RAK is indeed blessed with abundance of natural beauty on one hand and unique location on the other which has allowed it to strategize its economic development on two pillars, namely, Tourism & Industry. These elements have enabled RAK GDP to grow by more than 50% over the last four years. The Growth is driven by increased focus on manufacturing, services, real estate, construction and tourism.

With this vision in mind, a humble beginning was made by setting up RAK Ceramics in Ras Al Khaimah, which is presently considered to be the largest, single, state-of-the-art, ceramic tile manufacturing in the entire world with its 12 plants all over the world producing over one hundred million square meter of tiles and 3 million pieces of sanitary-wares annually, exporting to 128 countries. The operations of RAK Ceramics in Ras Al Khaimah is the most profitable though they have similar plants in China, India, Bangladesh, Sudan etc. the so called low cost manufacturing bases. This is due to the unique advantages one gets in operations in Ras Al Khaimah.

Recently RAK Investment Authority (RAKIA) has also formed RAKOFFSHORE which is a true offshore facility and regularity body offering complete offshore non-resident business registration and financial services. RAK Financial City is destined to become the new hub for the offshore financial operations of the regional business community. It will also enhance the cultural and social fabric of the emirate and become a major tourist attraction.
